God had a specific path of instruction to lead the Israelites out of the bondage of slavery in Egypt. He spelled out His plan, step by step, to Moses. If the Israelites would follow God in the tenth and final plague—if they would apply the blood of a spotless lamb to the doorposts and lintels of their houses—they would escape death to the firstborn in their houses, as the Lord promised.
